5 Simple Tips to Tackle Tryouts
Wednesday, May 2, 2018

Knees weak, heart pounding, time to give it your ALL…

Tryout season is here!

It’s that time of the year again, when athletes of all kinds will begin to tryout for their team of choice. Whether it’s your first or your tenth time trying out, we know that it can be nerve racking either way. Keep your nerves in check with 5 easy tips to help you prepare to wow the judges and tackle tryouts!

Tip #1: SMILE

This may sound easy, but you would be surprised at how hard this can be for some people. A simple smile can be what sets you apart from the crowd. If you show that you are out there having fun, then you are easily a step above the competition. Even if you forget a motion, just keep smiling! A smile can make a huge difference and let the judges know you are not easily shaken.

Tip #2: Don’t Compare Yourself.

Don’t worry about what someone else is doing and focus on what you are doing. If you start comparing yourself to other people, it may throw you off! Plus, the judges may like you best and you are just getting in your head. Just simply do your best and focus on what you can do! Everything else is out of your control, so don’t bother getting worked up about it anyway.

Tip #3: Get Plenty of Rest

Have you ever taken a huge test and could barely sleep the day before? We know the feeling. Tryouts can be as stressful as taking a huge test, so don’t forget to get your 8 hours of sleep in the night before tryouts. You will feel at the top of your game and will look refreshed. Getting a full night of sleep can help you think more clearly and precisely.

Tip #4: Look the Part

Come looking neat and polished. This means no clothing too big or too tight. Try to avoid wearing heavy make up and jewelry. Your hair should be neat and pulled back from your face. Find out if the team requires a specific outfit. You want to make sure to look the part of a cheerleader, so don’t forget your energy and enthusiasm as well!

Tip #5: Have Fun!

Try to have fun. When you’re enjoying yourself, it radiates to those watching. If you’re having fun, the judges are having fun watching you. The better you know your material, the less nerves and more fun you will have! This helps you look better overall.
